Apple iPhone 14 rumours - will it be your new business handset?

There are still a few more months to go before the big reveal of the latest Apple iPhone flagship handset for 2022. This has not stopped the rumours from beginning to circulate in the inner industry circles and across the international press as the much anticipated launch month gets closer.

We have been keeping our ear to the ground and have collated together some of the main whispers about the latest handset and why it could be a perfect hub for your business communications and working on the go.

Perhaps the biggest rumour to date is that the famous notch, that first appeared on the handsets for face ID in 2017, may be getting an upgrade for the Pro models. It is expected that a holepunch in the screen design may replace the much loved (or hated) notch to give a less interrupted screen experience. This smaller interruption in the handset screen will be beneficial to business users who conduct a lot of their office communications travelling between offices or to meetings, using their phone to review emails, presentations etc with an uninterrupted view.

It is expected that the iPhone 14 models are likely to continue to use the same A15 chip that was introduced in the previous iPhone 13 series, while the iPhone 14 Pro models receive a new and updated A16 chip. The A16 chip, alongside an increased 6GB of RAM will speed up the phones’ processing power, making working on the go more fast and efficient with power saving capabilities - keeping users working on the go for longer in between charges.

It is also anticipated that alongside this, the Apple iPhone 14 will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 modem, which is praised as the world's first 10 Gigabit 5G modem and antenna system for smartphones. Such improvements can only be good news for those that have their whole worklife at their fingertips, especially as the Snapdragon X65 modem promises fast 5G speeds, meaning any emails or downloads will load quicker.

Of course, with every new iphone launch, we often expect that a new iOS operating system update will be introduced. Apple announced iOS 16 in June with an expected full release date of September alongside the new handset range. Keen coders who have got their hands on the developer beta 2 of iOS16 have noticed that within this iOS update is coding for an Always On display - A much loved feature of competitor brand Samsung. This feature is favoured by many business users for quick viewing of notifications during meetings or between calls, alongside customisable widgets and displays that can be altered to suit user priorities - e.g multiple time zones or reminders.

Alongside improvements inside the much anticipated 2022 handset range, users can expect a new range of colours and materials for the outer shell of this business favourite. The latest range is predicted to come with a high-end titanium alloy chassis design with purple being a rumoured new colour edition to the already broad range.

Aside from the anticipated business benefits of the newest member of the Apple family, you will also benefit from yet another camera improvement. According to Phone Arena, this may include 48 MP main sensor, which would, in theory, allow for the new iPhones to finally shoot in 8K video.  As for the front camera, it is rumoured that this year will feature an upgraded front lens, with a wider f/1.9 aperture and autofocus capabilities, Perfect for taking that new LinkedIn Profile picture or conducting work video calls on the go.

The Apple iPhone 14 series will launch at some time in September 2022, with the finalised release date expected to be announced in the coming months. Until then, we will expect more rumours and anticipation to build. But will these system updates be enough to make you want to upgrade your business phone?
