How important are employee perks?

In a piece of research undertaken by CV Library it was clear that employee perks are a key driver in staff attraction and retention. The findings reveal that nearly two thirds (62.1%) of professionals consider these to be a key factor when looking for a job. Furthermore, just over one in 10 (12.6%) said that they would turn down a job if the company didn’t offer workplace perks.

Worryingly, the survey, which explored the views of of 1,000 workers, found that 71.8% of professionals aren’t currently receiving any perks at work. This is despite 70.5% of workers believing that all business should offer them.

When asked what they’d like to receive from their employer, the most desirable perks were:

  1. Flexible working (47.2%)

  2. Seasonal bonuses (39.1%)

  3. Extra holiday (37.3%)

  4. Staff discounts (22.6%)

  5. Paid time off on your birthday (21.3%)

  6. Casual dress code (19.8%)

  7. Free fitness facilities or classes (18%)

  8. Free office snacks and drinks (18%)

  9. Parties and social activities (8%)

  10. Nap or games room (5.2%)

These findings show that today’s workers are shying away from the more whimsical perks. These are ones that have become somewhat of a fad in recent years. Perks such as ‘nap pods’ and ‘office bars’ may be popular in some workplaces. However, the majority of professionals are now steering towards the more practical benefits like flexible working and bonuses.

With less than a third of employers offering workplace perks, it could be time for businesses to reconsider their strategy. Especially if organisations are hoping to attract talented candidates, as many take these into consideration when applying for jobs.

So, in a world where cost control is ever important, schemes like O2 Open offer a fantastic opportunity for businesses to offer perks without the pain. Talk to us today to find out more.
